General Targets

Health and safety for pupils and staff working "off-site"

Additional staff for Infant and reception classes

Better Welsh language clerical / reception services

Establishing a starter class at the Tan yr Eos site

•  Advertisements and interviews to appoint additional staff member

•  Additional resources and furniture ordered

•  Structure for In service training, NQT(Newly qualified teacher) mentor support, Teacher release for PPA (preparation, planning and Assessment )SEN (special educational needs) specialist support provision

•  Facilitation of travel arrangements from Treganna

The first year of Tan yr Eos has been very busy and very successful. Thanks to a great deal of hard work during the summer of 2007 and the support of Mrs Ferne Davies and her staff at Ninain , the class was ready by the end of september. Since then our pupils and staff have been busy establishing this new class as Tan yr Eos. The class has worked in close collaboration with Treganna and Ninian to ensure the best resources, teaching and learning for the new pupils

The class were involved in many visits including Barry Island to study the seashore, following the journey of a letter through the post office and to meet with Sam Tan at the local fire station

Spring presented the opportunity to work on the class garden and the children were busy planting, caring and watering. We were delighted to receive the "Best Wheelbarrow" award for Cardiff schools at the RHS Flower Show .

Pupils took part in a number of shows , class assemblies. Parents were frequent visitors to the class to enjoy snacks prepared by the pupils .

My sincere congratulations to the children and staff for all their industry and enthusiasm during the last year. We look forward to greeting a new cohort in September 2008

Pupils Tracking

Treganna makes extensive use of data to recognise trends and direction, to value strengths and address weakness in the learning and teaching process.More than anything, this process is an attempt to ensure meaningful progress for individual as they progress towards their own goals and potential.

The assessment coordinator in this field translates the data monitoring into recognisable signposts and targets for class teachers and subject leaders as appropriate

Adapting our practice to recognise the constraints of building resources

As the numbers of pupils attending Treganna and Tan yr Eos increase, the management of resources and health and safety issues become increasingly difficult to resolve . A number of substantial steps including a large building programme for Treganna have been undertaken this year. The Governing Body is grateful to the LEA (Local education authority) for its' support in the following initiatives

Building program for Treganna summer 2008

  • Walkie-talkie communication for 2 mile radius
  • Minibus hire for transport between sites

Some significant steps have been taken to recognise the increasing accommodation problems facing Treganna and Tan- yr-Eos. By September of 2009, these temporary measures will have been in place for two years. By then demand will have significantly outstripped accommodation. At this half way stage, Treganna has 197 pupils and Tan yr Eos has 30. Neither building can accommodate the substantial number of applications for places in Canton in 2009

ICT Suite

With the help of our excellent PTA we have been able to build a "hidden " ICT suite. By investing in flip desks we are able to use Bendigeidfran as an ICT area or simply reverse the desks to provide a more traditional teaching area

Improving Physical Education Opportunities

We are very proud of our progress in this field . I must pay special tribute to the staff who have worked so hard in this area. During 2007 - 08 in addition to Dragon Sport activities the school took part in:

  • County Cross country

  • County 7-a-side rugby tournament
  • County football tournament for boys
  • County football tournament for girls
