Kinaesthetic Approaches

  • Use gestures and movement to learn a new concept. For example, in developing rhythm work: clap for a crotchet; clap - hold for a minim; hands held out for a rest.

  • Use brain gym activities.

  • Use movement and actions to assist in learning songs.

  • Provide field trips and visits. For example: Gamelan at St David’s Hall; NOW; Techniquest; WNO; Artists in Residence.

  • Provide opportunities for learning by doing. For example, pupils are practically engaged in music making activities.

  • Provide opportunities to feel the beat. For example, someone takes the lead to conduct or pupils tap their feet.
